The Brazilian energy sector increased its installed capacity from 93 GW in 2005 to over 158 GW in 2018. Electricity consumption dropped to 464 GWh in 2017 with industries consuming 36% thereof. The top 10 energy conglomerates in Brazil hold 50% of distribution and participate in all segments: generation, transmission and distribution. Renewable sources cover 70% of the electricity matrix. Among the 46 main players in Brazil, energy businesses with assets of up to US$ 5 billion had the highest ROCE in 2017 (10.8% to 16.4%) while the largest companies had the highest EBIT margin of 21.4%.
